Chinese car quality ranked

A Chinese study using vehicle defect report data has scored brands that build cars there.

MG and Tesla were among those fell below the average 178 score, CarExpert reports, adding that more Chinese brands are entering Australia (and New Zealand) with Volvo (tied second with a 144 score) and BYD (third with 127 in the EV category) among the top ranked ones.

The Chinese Automobile Quality Network’s 2022 Brand Quality Ranking of its domestic automotive manufacturers included separate rankings for internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) brands.

The study collects data from the first official monitoring platform for automobile quality complaints in China and is sponsored by the State Administration for Market Regulation, CarExpert explains.

The State Administration says it received 35,896 reports of automotive defects in 2022 and is focusing on improving recall supervision this year.
