EV wireless charging pads could be in car park floors by next year.

That’s according to a Stuff report about research by the University of Auckland which is working on stationary wireless in-road charging pads (such as car parks), semi-dynamic charging pads (in waiting areas and bus bays for slower moving EVs), and dynamic charging on highways – the latter on a state highway one section covered by EVs and Beyond late last year.

A testing unit is being used by University of Auckland researchers to condense years’ worth of testing into months or even weeks, says Stuff, adding that EVs won’t need plugging in to charge, the EVs “power snacking” as they drive over the in-ground wireless charging pads.
