Tesla Model 3 tops Google EV searches
While the Tesla Model Y is the best-selling plug-in electric vehicle globally (770,000 unit sales in the past year) the Tesla Model 3 is the most searched-for on Google with nearly 20 million (19,989,872) searches in a year.
This figure marked at least six million more searches than the Tesla Model Y, which received 13,908,451 searches (third out of 10), according to Gridserve which checked out Google searches for 317 EVs across 117 countries during the past year.
Second was the Kia EV6 (15,815,185 searches), with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 fourth (12,689,787), then the Tesla Model S (11,459,099), the Porsche Taycan (10,511,286), Tesla Model X (9,535,778), Polestar 2 (8,212,142), Lexus RZ (7,186,840) and the BMW i4 (7,063,510).
Searches specifically for the Model 3 in Europe, North America, and Oceania accounted for 88% (17,654,842) of the global total, says Gridserve.
In Asia, drivers showed the highest interest in the Tata Nexon EV (2,405,640 searches), manufactured by the same automotive giant responsible for Jaguar and Land Rover. Meanwhile, in Africa, the Lexus RZ (454,390 searches) took the lead.
South American drivers displayed the most enthusiasm for the Porsche Taycan (884,310 searches), although Tesla’s Model 3, Model S, and Model X secured the second, third, and fourth places, with search volumes ranging from 477,270 to 657,620.
Tesla Model 3 is the most searched for EV in 41 of the 50 US states and is Australia’s most popular EV.
Meanwhile, an upgraded version of the Model 3 has been unveiled with a redesigned interior and exterior.
