NZ prepares for World EV Day September 9

EV communities throughout New Zealand are planning for World EV Day events on Saturday September 9.
A new public EV charger etiquette guide developed by the Better NZ Trust (Leading the Charge) in consultation with ChargeNet will be handed out at Auckland’s Greenlane free EV charging sites by trust members on the day.
The trust also intends informing people about why it considers the Clean Car scheme should be retained under a new government following the October general election.
Taranaki EV Owners Group members and Electricarna (the next one is scheduled for April 6, 2024) organisers Justin and Sharmayne Smith intend running an EV “round the mountain” trip on September 9.
More than 20 EVs are expected at the New World New Plymouth car park at 9am next to the ChargeNet charger, proceeding along State Highway 45 to Hawera for lunch, then returning to New Plymouth, covering about 180km.
Hamilton EV owners are meeting for an EV discussion at 2pm on the day and a run to the Ruakura We.EV charger.
Other World EV Day events are likely to be notified on the Better NZ Trust’s events site.
Christchurch is also hosting an event by Simon Wilkinson, Jordan Wyatt and the Christchurch EV Group at 158 Wordsworth Street, Sydenham, on Wednesday September 13, 7pm-11pm.
Called “California Dreaming”, it features a talk by Wyatt of his recent EV adventures in the US where he drove a Tesla from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and San Franciso, seeing the unreleased Cybertruck and new roadster, trying the Model S Plaid and visiting Tesla’s Fremont factory.
EV test drives are also planned at the Christchurch session.
