How Waikato’s electric vehicle charging experts are driving change
We.EV – the Waikato’s Electric Vehicle charging specialists – is already known for helping businesses plan and design their power infrastructure. Powered by community-owned energy network suppliers WEL Networks, the company is now offering a new service We.EV@ Home, specifically designed for home users.
The reason is simple. We’re all more reliant on electricity than ever before, whether that’s using basic appliances like hobs and heat pumps, or larger items like spa’s and EV’s. But in terms of electricity consumption, adding an EV can be like adding another home to the street you live in!
A true win-win
We know EV owners love their new vehicles, and are great ambassadors for the shift to electric vehicle usage. Now, We.EV @Home makes doing the right thing by the environment and the wider community easier than ever – as it allows the home charger to be remotely adjusted to control the network load. Over time, as EVs become more and more popular, that could lead to savings of hundreds of millions of dollars for expensive network upgrades.
‘When we trialled the concept, local EV drivers told us they’d happily allow us to manage their chargers when required – as long as they could still drive their vehicles. They liked the fact it was a win-win arrangement’, explains Kerry Green, GM Energy Services, WEL Networks. ‘By controlling usage peaks and reducing high infrastructure costs for WEL – costs which would ultimately be passed on to our customers – we’re tackling the problem together in a simple, but smart way.’
EV owners can benefit immediately too. As an introductory offer, We.EV @Home is offering customers a smart home EV charger with We.EV accredited installation from just $1,595 including GST – quite a bit less than the typical costs here in New Zealand.
