Cheap Tesla to be built in Germany
Tesla intends building a NZ$45,000 (25,000 euros) EV in Germany.
That’s according to Reuters which quotes an unnamed source who did not say when production starts, while Tesla declined comment.
EV prices and high interest rates are among factors restraining EV uptake in Europe and the US, Reuters suggests, the average retail price about NZ$116,877 (65,000 euros) compared to about half that in China, it explains.
Tesla is likely to die cast the EV’s underbody in one piece, lowering costs and hastening production.
Its chief executive Elon Musk called at the factory near Berlin recently and thanked staff, the Reuters’ source saying Musk informed staff of the 25,000 euro vehicle build.
