MG to tweak XPOWER over vibration

MG Motor New Zealand will fit a new steering dampner to all MG4 XPOWER models – both delivered and to-be-delivered – to correct a vibration issue.

EVs and Beyond experienced what we believe to be the issue, a very minor vibration in the steering at motorway speeds on some surfaces, but on discussion with the brand’s PR representative, put it down tyre wear from previous performance testing.

At no time did we feel the vibration was dangerous, or even enough for many drivers to notice.

It now seems we were wrong, with the brand acknowledging customer feedback had triggered the vehicle update.

“It’s MG XPOWER customer feedback from around the world that helps guide our engineers and designers to improve and evolve our offering,” an MG spokesperson now says in a statement.

“With help of all the rich insights from customers abroad, we’ve taken this opportunity to put the new steering damper in all XPOWERS as part of our Pre Delivery Inspection process both in Australia and NZ. While this will cause some delays in delivery, we believe that this upgrade will further enhance the driving experience through improved handling and steering response without compromising safety.”

EVs and Beyond understands less than 20 been registered in New Zealand so far. The upgrade will be free to all cars already here and coming in the future.
