Cooling off with an EV

Hot summer weather is on the way, so perhaps the EV air conditioner needs a higher setting and those with bidirectional charging can help cool the home too.

Air conditioners are renowned for sucking up the power (just ask Australians), so using an EV or solar power to do the job makes sense.

Those with cooling in their EV seats will also benefit.

The heat is expected to be turned up this year with climate change, El Nino and a marine heatwave, NIWA saying last year was the second hottest on record behind 2022 with 2021 in third place.

This year is shaping up even hotter and is widely expected to be the first year to hit 1.5 degrees Celsius higher than the pre-industrial era, a target many countries were hoping to be a top limit while moving to reduce emissions – especially from fossil fuels.

Encouraging EV uptake is among some of the measures.
