Tesla planning new EVs mid-2025

Tesla-manufacturing-1

Tesla intends starting production of a new mass market EV codenamed “Redwood” in mid-2025.

Reuters reports that Tesla chief executive Elon Musk has long suggested affordable EVs and robotaxi autonomous vehicles for next generation cheaper EV platforms.

These will allow it to compete with cheaper internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and EVs like China’s BYD which overtook Tesla as the world’s top EV maker in the final quarter of 2023, says Reuters.

Tesla sent “requests for quotes” or invitations for bids for the “Redwood” model to suppliers last year, and forecast weekly production volume of 10,000 vehicles, Reuters says.

Production is expected to start June 2025.

The next-generation Tesla architecture, reportedly called “NV9X”, will include two or more models, says Reuters.

Tesla intends producing cheaper cars at its Berlin factory and is reportedly keen to establish a factory in India to produce cheaper EVs, in addition to its Shanghai plant (producing EVs for New Zealand and Australia), Austin factory in Texas and Fremont in California – the latter two mainly for the US market, plus other Tesla products in Nevada and New York.
