Frankton marina to get e-boat charging

Meridian-Energy-Manapouri-ferry-1-small

Lakes Marina Projects and Electric Wave have approval to put electric boat charging on part of the Frankton marina.

Two “fingers” from one pier of the Sugar Lane marina will be removed and replaced with one shorter and wider finger, on which two electric boat charging cabinets will be installed – the first time electric marine will be introduced to Lake Whakatipu, says Queenstown’s Mountain Scene.

The report follows an EVs and Beyond story about Meridian Energy expecting to have an electric hydrofoiling ferry on Lake Manapouri next year.

Destination Queenstown chief executive Mat Woods says the development paves the way for Queenstown to use e-marine as a public transport option.

Wellington has the electric East by West Ferries, while EV Maritime’s providing electric ferries for Auckland and Seachange is building an electric hydrofoiling ferry.
