Up to $15 million is available in the low emission transport fund (LET) for public EV charging urban (more than 10,000 residents) where users spend 30 minutes to two hours at shops, leisure facilities and community amenities.

Applications close for the government grants administered by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) at 5pm on Friday May 31, 2024.

EECA says the LET: Public EV Charging fund supports investment in the public EV charging network and aims to encourage innovation and increase the accessibility, convenience, and availability of infrastructure in New Zealand to help meet and get ahead of demand.

It’s open to organisations capable of delivering EV charger projects, the investment for network connection costs capped at 35% of the total project cost.

“To reduce frustrations with queuing, proposals are also welcome that seek to increase the number of chargers on existing urban public charging sites and/or to upgrade the connection capacity at current charging sites to enable simultaneous charging for multiple vehicles,” says EECA.

It ran a webinar on urban EV charging early in May.
