Cadillac EV-only models for ANZ

Cadillace Experience Centre Sydney

General Motors has clarified Cadillac‘s lineup in Australia and Zealand will exclusively comprise EVs.

That’s in spite of suggestions some time ago the brand could offer ICE models in the Australian market, says GM Authority.

During the Cadillac Experience Centre Sydney announcement as its first permanent location and local point of sale, GM’s Australian subsidiary clarified the luxury brand is committed to an exclusive line of EVs in that country.

GM’s top representative in Australia and New Zealand told CarSales that the company has no plans to introduce any ICE (internal combustion engine) Cadillac vehicles in the region, says GM Authority, adding GM Australia and New Zealand managing director Jess Bala says the plan is for 100% EVs.

GM Authority says GM’s Ultium architecture provides flexibility and convenience to generate right-hand drive vehicles suitable for the Australian and New Zealand market directly from the factory – “the technical feasibility of the electric platform was the key to Cadillac being able to successfully undertake its return journey to Australia and New Zealand with RHD models”.

It says none of Cadillac’s current ICE vehicles have the capability to roll right-hand drive out of the factory, as they would require an additional conversion process like the one GMSV does in Dandenong, Victoria for the Chevy Silverado.

EVs and Beyond earlier featured GM’s Cadillac Lyriq EV and Cadillac Experience Centre plans.
