CATL unveils 600kWh EV battery, while e-truck does Australian lap
The CATL Tectrans – T is a battery developed specifically for heavy-duty trucks with a lifespan of 2.8 million km, capable of recharging to 70% in 15 minutes, and the top trim has a capacity of 600kWh.
CATL revealed the new battery at IAA Transportation in Messe Hannover, Germany (September 17-22), CarNewsChina reports.
It says CATL introduced two versions of the new Tectrans – T battery – the Long Life Edition and Superfast Charging Edition.
The Tectrans – T Long Life Edition has a lifespan of 2.8 million km and 15 years, 500km range, and it supports CATL’s battery swapping solution provided by QIJI Energy, which is CATL’s all-in-one heavy-duty truck chassis for battery swap, says CarNewsChina.
The Tectrans – T Superfast Charging Edition supports 4C charging and can refill the battery 70% in 15 minutes, has 200-600kWh capacity and 500km range.
Its lifespan expectation is 1.2 million km and eight years.
“In Europe, CATL already partners with heavy-duty truck manufacturers such as Daimler Truck AG, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, and Volvo A/B,” says CarNewsChina.
It adds that Tectrans, previously called Tianxing, is CATL’s new Commercial Vehicle Battery Brand, launched in July.
“It has three products: Tectrans – T for heavy-duty electric trucks, Tectrans – L (L-Series) for Light commercial EVs, and Tectrans – B (Bus Edition) for electric buses.
“All three Tectrans battery types are based on CTP (cell-to-pack) 3.0 technology.”
Meanwhile, a Hyundai Mighty seven-tonne electric truck is doing a lap of Australia, The Driven reports.
The e-truck left on September 5 at Jon Edwards’ workshop in O’Connor, Western Australia, and is now in Queensland.
