LDV unveils AWD electric Ute in the UK
Maxus, known as LDV in New Zealand and several other markets, has unveiled a groundbreaking all-wheel drive (AWD) electric ute in the UK.
This follows the electric ute concept first shown in China just over a year ago, marking the debut of the first AWD electric ute in the UK.
Named the eTerron 9, this new model builds on the success of the LDV T90EV, the UK’s first electric ute, which was only available as a rear-wheel drive vehicle.
The eTerron 9 surpasses the Ford Ranger in size, stretching 130mm longer at 5500mm. Its load bed extends up to 2.4 metres in length when the rear bulkhead is dropped to accommodate longer cargo. Additionally, a waterproof 236-litre storage compartment is located under the bonnet for extra storage.

The ute’s payload capacity sits at 620kg, falling short of the one-tonne threshold required to qualify for lower commercial vehicle tax rates in the UK. However, its braked towing capacity is a strong 3500kg, aligning it with competitors like the Ranger and Hilux.
The eTerron 9 is powered by two electric motors, one on each axle, delivering a combined output of 323kW. The front motor produces 123kW, while the rear delivers 200kW—significantly more powerful than the 130kW motor in New Zealand’s LDV eT60. The ute features an All-Terrain system with six driving modes, designed for conditions such as sand and mud.

At the heart of the eTerron 9 is a 102kWh LFP battery, offering a driving range of up to 427km. Charging the battery from 20 to 80 per cent takes approximately 40 minutes using a 115kW fast charger.
The vehicle also includes vehicle-to-load functionality, allowing it to supply power to tools or appliances, with 2.2kW sockets available in both the front compartment and the truck bed, alongside a 6.6kW connection in the rear.

The ute’s suspension system is equipped with air suspension, which automatically adjusts ride height based on speed to improve efficiency on highways. The ride height can be lowered by up to 60mm when stationary, making loading and unloading more convenient.
Sales of the eTerron 9 in the UK are expected to begin early next year, with an estimated price of around $NZ110,000.
