‘Affordable’ Tesla Model Q expected in 2025
An “affordable” Tesla Model Q may be coming as early as the first half of next year to add to Tesla’s lineup.
So says a social media post from the Wall Street Journal, GM Authority suggesting the Tesla Model Q may compete with “affordable” General Motors (GM) EVs like the Chevrolet Equinox EV and the 2026 Chevrolet Bolt EV.
The information came from a copy of a report from Deutsche Bank, says GM Authority, adding the Wall Street Journal’s Becky Peterson says Tesla investor relations boss Travis Axelrod met Deutsche Bank for its Autonomous Driving Day in New York recently and that the report shows “the new Tesla model” is internally being called “Model Q”.
“When the Tesla Model Q launches next year, it’s expected to have a starting MSRP of (US)$37,499, which would put the price tag for most at just under (US)$30,000 if the (US)$7500 federal EV tax credit is still alive by the time it comes to market,” says GM Authority, adding the report also says the Tesla Model Q will be built on Tesla’s existing production lines.
“This report comes after a Q3 earnings call in which Tesla told investors a more affordable model was coming in the first half of 2025.
“The EV brand also said it would lower the prices on its existing lineup and eventually introduce robotaxis, which we got a glimpse of at Elon Musk’s “WeRobot” presentation in October,” says GM Authority.
“As for GM’s affordable, mass-market EVs, the 2025 Chevy Equinox EV boasts a base price of $34,995 before any incentives kick in.
“Meanwhile, a next-generation Chevy Bolt EV is coming for the 2026 model year. It will be built on the BEV2 platform that underpinned the Chevy Bolt EUV but with modernised Ultium-based motors and batteries.
“GM said the new Bolt will be the most affordable EV in the United States when it comes out.”
The Tesla Model Q story is also reported by other media, such as Teslarati.
