Enyring and Swobbee partner on urban e-bikes
Swappable battery service provider for e-bikes Enyring, founded by Yamaha Motor in 2023, has partnered with Europe battery-swapping infrastructure provider Swobbee which will supply hardware and key battery-swapping software components for Enyring’s swappable battery platform launching in Berlin and Amsterdam later this year.
By enabling e-bike riders to swap empty batteries for fully charged ones across a network of smart stations, the two companies say they aim to reshape how urban dwellers experience micromobility.
“Swobbee’s modular swapping stations and reliable backend software provide the perfect foundation for delivering on our promise of unlimited range and low entry costs for e-bike riders,” says Enyring chief executive Satoru Moriyama.
“This partnership allows us to hit the ground running in our target cities while ensuring a smooth and scalable user experience.”
Swobbee brings years of experience in deploying battery-swapping infrastructure across Europe, with more than100 stations installed globally and a growing presence in the US.
It is backed by an impact investor industrialising cleantech innovation, InnoEnergy.
Swobbee already powers a shared e-moped rental service using Yamaha’s Neo electric scooters in Berlin.
“We are proud to deepen our relationship with Yamaha through this exciting new venture with Enyring,” says Swobbee co-founder and chief executive Thomas Duscha,
“Together we’re not only building smarter cities but also setting new standards for sustainability and convenience in micromobility.”
Enyring’s closed-loop approach – centred on extending battery lifespans and promoting reuse and recycling – aligns closely with Swobbee’s mission to reduce operational costs and environmental impact for light EV fleets, says Duscha.
With pilot operations set to begin in mid-2025, the partnership is poised to accelerate the rollout of swappable battery networks in some of Europe’s most bike-friendly cities, he says.
