Kia unveils EV2 compact SUV, NZ availability uncertain
Kia has unveiled the EV2 compact electric SUV at the Brussels Motor Show, though the brand’s New Zealand arm is yet to determine whether the vehicle will join the local model lineup.
The EV2 marks Kia’s sixth dedicated electric model and is positioned as an entry point to electric mobility, targeting urban drivers with up to 448km of driving range and class-above interior space despite its compact dimensions.
“With the Kia EV2, we are expanding the reach of Kia’s electric mobility to customers who want a compact car that still feels spacious, capable and emotionally rewarding,” says Ho Sung Song, President and CEO of Kia Corporation.
The compact SUV measures 4060mm in length with a 2565mm wheelbase and will be offered with two battery options. The standard-range model features a 42.2kWh battery delivering up to 317km of WLTP range, while the long-range variant uses a 61.0kWh battery for up to 448km.
Both variants support fast charging from 10–80% in around 30 minutes, with AC charging capabilities of 11kW or 22kW depending on specification. The EV2 also includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) functionality.
Despite being Kia’s most compact electric SUV, the EV2 offers sliding and reclining rear seats that can extend legroom to 958mm, while cargo capacity reaches 403 litres with rear seats positioned forward. The model also features a front storage compartment.
The interior centres around what Kia calls a “Picnic Box” concept, featuring a panoramic display combining 12.3-inch cluster and infotainment screens with a 5-inch climate panel. Standard equipment includes Digital Key 2.0, remote smart parking assist, and a Harman/Kardon premium audio system.
GT models expand performance lineup

Alongside the EV2, Kia revealed GT versions of the EV3, EV4 Hatchback and EV5, each featuring dual-motor all-wheel drive systems and 215kW of power output.
The performance models include GT-specific chassis tuning, electronically controlled suspension, and digital features such as virtual gear shift and active sound design.
A GT Line variant of the EV2 will also be available, featuring model-specific bumpers, body-coloured garnishes and dedicated wheels for a more premium appearance.
Production of the EV2 will begin in the first quarter of 2026 with the standard-range model, followed by long-range and GT Line variants throughout the year. The GT models across the EV3, EV4 and EV5 ranges are scheduled for production in the second half of 2026.
