Xiaomi unveils automated EV charging system

Chinese automotive and technology company Xiaomi has unveiled an automated electric vehicle charging system that uses a robotic arm to connect and disconnect a charging cable without driver intervention.

Designed primarily for home use, the system allows drivers to park their vehicle and initiate charging remotely via a smartphone app. The robotic arm automatically plugs in the charger and disconnects it once the battery reaches its target charge level.

The system is scheduled to launch in China before the end of the year.

Xiaomi has not confirmed plans to introduce the technology in overseas markets, although Europe is considered a likely candidate following the launch of the company’s vehicles there.

While Xiaomi is the first manufacturer to announce a commercial rollout of the technology, reports suggest other Chinese automakers are also developing automated charging solutions.
