Omoda E5 recalled in NZ over silent pedestrian warning system

The Omoda E5 has been recalled in New Zealand because its pedestrian warning system may make no sound.

Chery Automobile says it has identified that the warning sound function of the AVAS system in certain E5 vehicles was not activated. The recall covers 2025 and 2026 model year cars and was notified on 23 August under campaign number RCB-2604.

An Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System is the low-speed sound an electric vehicle is required to emit so pedestrians, particularly those with low vision, can hear it approaching. With the function inactive, an affected E5 travels silently at low speeds.

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Chery in writing and asked to schedule an appointment at their local dealership, where inspection and any repair work will be carried out free of charge. The number of vehicles affected has not been stated.

The electric E5 is sold here through Chery’s Omoda Jaecoo network, and was reviewed by EVs and Beyond at its 2024 launch. Recall details are available through Chery New Zealand under campaign RCB-2604.
