BYD reaches 150,000 deliveries in Australia with a Seal 6 Touring PHEV
BYD has delivered its 150,000th vehicle in Australia less than four years after launch, a Seal 6 Touring plug-in hybrid wagon from a regional dealer.
BYD has delivered its 150,000th vehicle in Australia, a Seal 6 Touring plug-in hybrid wagon handed over by BYD Warrnambool in south-west Victoria.
The brand entered the Australian market in late 2022 and passed 60,000 sales in July last year. It delivered more than 52,000 vehicles in the first half of 2026.
The milestone car went to Tiffany, from Portland, a few weeks after her partner took delivery of a Seal Performance sedan from the same dealership.
“The initial purchase experience with the team at BYD Warrnambool was so pleasant, and my partner loves his Seal so much. When we took delivery and I saw the Seal 6 Touring in the showroom, I said it’s time for me to have my first-ever brand-new car,” she says.
“The styling of the Seal 6 Touring really appeals to me. We have a young family, and the practicality and low running costs it offers made it an easy decision.”
Regional dealers
BYD Australia chief operating officer Stephen Collins says most of the brand’s recently opened dealerships are outside the major cities.
“I’m delighted that it was one of our recently appointed regional and rural dealers that delivered the 150,000th BYD,” Collins says.
“The vast majority of recently opened BYD sales and service dealerships have been outside of the metro area, deep into regions serving wide communities. That emphasis will continue for the remainder of the year and well into 2027 as we continue to build a dealer network that helps serve Australians wherever they live.”
BYD plans to have more than 150 sales and service dealerships operating by the end of 2026. New sites are planned for Noosaville, Mareeba and Moorooka in Queensland, Mudgee in New South Wales, Seymour in Victoria, the Barossa in South Australia and Rockingham in Western Australia.
BYD also says it holds 580,000 parts across its Australian distribution network.
In New Zealand, BYD passed 15,000 vehicles in September, four years after arriving here.
