Tesla Roadster reveal: how to watch live in New Zealand
Tesla livestreams the Roadster reveal at 1.55pm NZ time on Friday 16 October.
Tesla will livestream the reveal of its next-generation Roadster at 1.55pm today, Friday 16 October, New Zealand time.
The broadcast can be watched on Tesla’s X account or on Tesla’s website. It starts at 7.55pm on Thursday 15 October in Texas.
The event was originally set for 1 October but was postponed because of severe weather, as Tesla says the demonstration has to be held outdoors. Tesla has said pricing, specifications and production targets will be announced.
The second-generation Roadster was first shown in November 2017, with production promised for 2020. Tesla’s original claims were around 1000km of range, a top speed above 400km/h, 0-97km/h in 1.9 seconds, four seats and a removable glass roof. Elon Musk has also talked about an optional SpaceX package using cold-gas thrusters.
New Zealand reservations are already open, with Tesla asking for $73,000 in deposits: $7000 by credit card, followed by a $66,000 wire transfer within 10 days. The deposit is refundable until a purchase agreement is signed. Tesla has not confirmed right-hand drive production, local pricing or when New Zealand cars might arrive.
We will report on the reveal once it has happened.
