A powerful EV from Genovation

Genovation Cars featured its GXE all-electric supercar at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show which ended December 9.

The GXE has twin electric motors producing more than 596kW of power and in excess of 900Nm of torque.

It has a normal driving range of more than 281km from a 61.6kWh battery pack.

About 75 of the Genovation GXE will be produced in a limited-edition run, with initial customer deliveries scheduled in mid-2019.

Genovation Cars holds the Guinness Book of World Records for a street legal electric car with a speed of 306km/h in the standing mile.

It also has the first street legal electric car to record a top speed of 336.3km/h and still retains that record.

The carbon-fibre wheels for the GXE have been supplied by Carbon Revolution, a privately-owned Australian company with an office in Las Vegas.

The GXE has a low centre of gravity and near 50/50 weight distribution. It also comes equipped with an active programmable suspension, carbon ceramic Brembo brakes, an ultra-high fidelity 10-speaker JBL stereo, a 10.4-inch custom high brightness touchscreen, over the air updates, active aerodynamics and a bespoke interior.

The supercar is available with either a seven-speed manual or an eight-speed paddle shift automatic transmission.

Reported to be based on a Corvette platform, the GXE is said by some overseas media to be more of a conversion for customers rather than a stand-alone product.

Genovation says a key objective is to reduce the use of petrochemicals and energy used to make cars.

Sustainable parts planned include seats made with soy-based foam, tyres from natural rubber infused with orange peel oil – a beverage by-product, the most stable lithium-battery chemistry available and carpeting from recycled plastic bottles.

The company is studying the possibility of using composite materials made from natural, non-toxic and renewable products, such as soy-based resins rather than petrochemical resins and natural fibres made from basalt, jute, bamboo and burlap for trim pieces and body panels. Customers will have the option to order seat fabric made from wool.
