ACC considering how to levy electric vehicles

ACC is considering how to classify and levy electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, following public consultation.

It is part of a review requested by acting ACC minister Nathan Guy.

ACC is also recommending a 10% reduction in the work levy paid by businesses, a 13% reduction in the motor vehicle levy paid by car owners and a 3% increase in the earner’s levy for employees.

If approved, the changes will be in force between 2017 and 2019.

ACC chair Dame Paula Rebstock says it was great to see more than 1100 people make a submission.

“The changes being recommended to the minister for ACC are a mix of reductions and increases to ensure levies are as fair as possible for all New Zealanders.”
