New documents reveal Apple might be about to test its autonomous vehicles on public roads in the United States.
It has been granted state permits to operate 55 autonomous cars in California, USA Today reports.

General Motors’ Cruise Automotive has permits for 104 vehicles, Waymo – Google’s self-driving car company – has 51 vehicles, while Tesla has 39 and Drive.ai 14.
All of the companies mentioned also have permits for drivers to monitor AVs from inside the car.
AVs have been under the spotlight since a cyclist was killed in Arizona after being hit by a car using Uber’s autonomous technology.
