Audi has confirmed it will expand its electric vehicle line-up with the introduction of the A2 e-tron, a compact all-electric model set to be unveiled in late 2026.

The A2 e-tron will sit at the entry point of Audi’s EV range and is aimed at broadening access to the brand’s electric offering. Production will take place at Audi’s Ingolstadt plant in Germany.

The announcement was made by Audi chief executive Gernot Döllner during the company’s annual media conference.

“We’ve listened. Our customers want electric mobility that impresses in everyday life. The A2 e-tron is our promise to deliver exactly that – efficient, compact, and confident. We’re making entry into the electric Audi world easier and more relevant than ever,” Döllner says.

Compact EV targets urban buyers

Audi says the A2 e-tron is designed with city driving in mind, targeting buyers seeking an efficient, practical and digitally connected vehicle for everyday use.

The company says demand for compact EVs continues to grow, particularly in urban markets where space, efficiency and sustainability are key considerations.

The name references the original Audi A2, a lightweight hatchback launched more than 25 years ago that focused on efficiency and urban mobility. Audi says the new model will carry that philosophy into the electric era.

The A2 e-tron will be built at Audi’s headquarters in Ingolstadt as part of the company’s broader shift towards electric vehicle production across its European manufacturing network.

“The A2 e-tron is crucial for our brand and also for our German home. With the production of an additional fully electric model family in Ingolstadt, we are securing jobs and delivering electric mobility ‘made in Germany’,” Döllner says.

Part of wider model rollout

Audi says the new model forms part of a broader product expansion that has seen more than 20 new vehicles launched across 2024 and 2025, resulting in one of the youngest model ranges in the premium segment.

The company plans to expand both ends of its line-up in 2026, with the A2 e-tron strengthening the entry-level offering and a new flagship SUV, the Audi Q9, expected to sit at the top of the range.

Audi has also released an early design sketch of the A2 e-tron, previewing the silhouette of the compact EV ahead of its global debut.
