Australia’s first off-site, multi-user electric truck charging hub has opened in Mascot, Sydney, providing a major boost to the country’s transition toward zero-emission commercial transport.

Developed and operated by global fleet-electrification company Zenobē, the facility features 22 DC fast chargers and parking for up to 44 light commercial trucks. The site is powered by 100 per cent renewable energy and is designed to support shared access for multiple commercial fleets.

Zenobē says the Mascot hub is the first of its kind in Australia and represents a scalable model for businesses that need reliable charging but lack the depot space, grid capacity or capital to build on-site infrastructure.

“This project marks a turning point for Australia’s commercial transport sector. The Mascot hub is not only the first of its kind in the country, but also a model for how fleets can access clean, shared charging infrastructure without needing to invest in their own sites,” Zenobē country director for Australia and New Zealand Gareth Ridge says.

“We’re proud to be leading this change alongside our partners and helping to make sustainable transport a reality for Australia.”

Woolworths confirmed as anchor tenant

Woolworths is the hub’s main tenant, leasing about half the available spaces for its growing fleet of electric delivery trucks.

“With our home delivery service more popular than ever with our customers, working with Zenobē allows us to scale our investment in an EV truck fleet quickly. Charging infrastructure like this new facility is critical to our EV operations and helping to make our suburban streets just a little quieter and cleaner,” Woolworths director of strategic initiatives, eComX, Chris Peters says.

As part of the project, Zenobē will lease 60 electric light commercial trucks to Woolworths under its Electric Vehicle as a Service model, which includes vehicle financing, maintenance, battery management and second-life battery repurposing.

Major partners support project delivery

The Mascot hub is backed by several key partners:

  • Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) – providing grant funding through its Driving the Nation programme to support heavy-duty EV transition.
  • Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) – providing project financing.
  • Ausgrid – site-leasing partner and grid-connection provider.
  • Foton – supplier of electric trucks for Woolworths’ fleet.

Zenobē says the collaborative approach is a major milestone in scaling electric-transport infrastructure across Australia and marks the first off-site charging hub of its kind developed by the company anywhere in the world.
