BEVs gain in March registrations
Battery electric vehicles (BEVs) are climbing in the popularity stakes with more than 42,500 EVs now registered in New Zealand.
Rejigged Ministry of Transport vehicle registration tables show 2323 BEVs registered in March 2022 – more than double February’s 1010 with interest in plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and hybrid-petrol vehicles appearing to wane.
All vehicle registrations doubled in March (from 23,100 in February to 46,021) with petrol (28,889) and diesel (11,708) vehicles pouring in to beat the April 1 Clean Car Discount second-round deadline.
PHEV registrations increased just slightly in March (631 compared to 502 in February) while hybrid-petrol numbers have dropped from 3137 in February to 2471 in March.
