BMW electric 3 Series seen testing
The electric BMW 3 Series i3 has been spotted testing on the road.
It’s the second model using the modular Neue Klasse EV platform, New Zealand Autocar reports.
The first, the upcoming iX3 SUV, is set to debut next year, with the BMW iX3 also due in 2025, the magazine says, adding no interior photos of the preproduction vehicle were available.
“What’s known is that the Neue Klasse platform will be equipped with 800V electrical hardware so it will be amongst the quickest-charging EVs on the market.
“Expect the battery packs to be 20% more energy dense than those currently in use.”
BMW says improvements in aerodynamics, motor efficiency and software will boost range by almost a third.
A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with about 100km range is expected along with two internal combustion engine (ICE) variants.
An iM3 electric version is also likely.
The BMW 3 Series could be launched before the end of next year or early in 2026.
