BMW NZ destination charging expands
BMW New Zealand has unveiled new BMW Wallboxes for up to 22kW EV charging at The Heke – a Waiheke Island restaurant, brewery and distillery.
It follows similar charging installations at golf clubs, luxury resorts and hotels across the North and South Islands.
The Heke focuses on sustainability in all aspects of its business, is recognised by industry groups as a leader in sustainable hospitality and has recently been certified by Qualmark under the rigorous Sustainable Tourism Business criteria.
It uses 80% fewer single use products than a similar business, composts 100% of food waste locally, has across-the-board recycling with on-site sorting, the sourcing of ingredients from on-site gardens and adoption of a procurement policy that prioritises nearby suppliers.
BMW New Zealand says it’s committed to offering further charging options for EV owners throughout the country.
Recent collaborations with Manawatu Golf Club, Hastings Golf Club, Manse Luxury Lodge and Millbrook Resort have seen Generation 3 BMW Wallbox chargers installed for the convenience of BMW customers and other compatible EV owners.
Seven years ago, BMW New Zealand partnered with ChargeNet to create a network of DC fast charging stations, covering large areas of New Zealand.
At that time, the BMW i3 was one of only two fully electric vehicles on sale in the country.
Today, BMW New Zealand offers 10 fully electric variants and by mid-2024 expects to have 12.
In 2022, BMW New Zealand also began a partnership with EV charge point operator Jolt to assist in the rollout of a free fast charging options across the nation.
BMW New Zealand provides a complimentary Generation 3 BMW Wallbox with the purchase of every new fully electric BMW model.
It says registrations of fully electric BMW vehicles in New Zealand were up 47% to the end of December 2023.
