BMW ramps up its green drive

BMW has put its foot down for sustainability – with a shipload of plug-in hybrids on the way.

The German giant – which already sells the carbon fibre cutey i3 – is now going to offer plug-in hybrid versions of some of its most popular models.

The 225xe Active Tourer, 330e sedan, X5 xDrive40e SUV and the luxury 740e will be released gradually from ext month under the iPerformance brand.

BMW New Zealand managing director Florian Renndorfer said the company would be offering the widest range of vehicles styles in the country offering either EV or plug-in hybrid powertrains.

“The BMW Group is known for its advanced, forward-thinking technology,” said Renndorfer, “and these new BMW iPerformance vehicles combine our most popular body styles with the latest innovations in sustainable personal transport.”
