BYD Auto NZ has announced the addition of six authorised dealerships to its national network, bringing its total showroom count to 25 as demand for new energy vehicles (NEVs) continues to grow across the country.

The expansion, announced on 30 June 2026, spans both metropolitan and regional locations, with openings confirmed in South Auckland, Pukekohe, Wellington CBD, Invercargill, the Wairarapa, and Christchurch’s Hornby suburb.

Regional coverage a priority

The first sites to open are in Pukekohe and South Auckland. Ebbetts Pukekohe, located at 6 Svendsen Road, joined the BYD network on 1 July, extending coverage into the Franklin region. A day later, on 7 July, BYD South Auckland opened at 686 Great South Road, Manukau — a 10,000 square metre facility owned by the Andrew Simms Group, incorporating a showroom and full aftersales space.

The Andrew Simms Group will also open a dedicated BYD showroom in Invercargill, bringing sales, service, and aftersales support to the Southland region. A specific opening date has not yet been confirmed.

In Wellington, Automarque BYD is set to open in mid-July at 55 Featherston Street in the CBD, complementing the group’s existing Lower Hutt site.

Rounding out the expansion, Colonial Motor Company — New Zealand’s oldest dealer group, which traces its origins to 1859 — will open two further locations under the Adventure Motors banner. One will be in the Wairarapa and another in Hornby, Christchurch, both expected to open during Q3 2026.

New models to follow

BYD Auto NZ says the network expansion is timed to support a series of new model arrivals planned for the remainder of 2026 and into 2027, though specific models have not yet been confirmed.

“The expansion of our dealer network reflects the remarkable confidence the New Zealand market has shown in the BYD brand,” said Warren Willmot, General Manager of BYD Auto NZ, in a statement. “We are committed to ensuring every New Zealander, whether in a major city or a regional centre, has access to a BYD dealership with world-class customer experience and aftersales support.”

BYD Auto NZ is distributed locally by Ateco Automotive NZ Ltd, a 100% New Zealand-owned company. BYD has operated in the New Zealand market since 2022, and its current range includes the Shark 6 ute, Sealion 6, Sealion 7, Sealion 8, and the Atto 1, Atto 2, Atto 3, and Seal 06 Touring. All models tested to date have received a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
