BYD is set to launch its premium DENZA sub-brand in New Zealand and Australia in November, introducing two plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) off-roaders as the first models under the new nameplate.

The brand will be distributed here out of the BYD office in Australia rather than through local BYD distributor Ateco.

The DENZA B5 and B8 are five and seven-seater premium off-road vehicles that will be rebadged versions of BYD’s LEOPARD 5 and LEOPARD 8 models, currently sold throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Both vehicles feature BYD’s DM-O (Dual-Mode Offroad) technology, which the company describes as a breakthrough drivetrain that combines off-road capability with electric vehicle efficiency.

DENZA Australia chief operating officer Mark Harland says the launch represents a significant development for the local automotive market.

“This is a landmark moment in the Australian automotive industry,” Harland says. “DENZA will offer a whole new range for consumers wanting a slice of luxury and the latest in innovation.”

The new brand is positioned to serve both adventure-focused buyers and urban families, with the vehicles designed for rugged terrain use as well as city driving.

“It’s built for explorers, pioneers, and leaders. For those who see roads as invitations, not boundaries, we know DENZA will be one of the most exciting premium brand launches to date,” Harland says.

The DENZA launch marks BYD’s move into the premium segment in the Australia-New Zealand market, building on the success of its mainstream models including the Atto 3, Dolphin and Seal.

DENZA represents a curated selection of vehicles from BYD’s three sub-brands, reimagined under the single premium nameplate for the local market.

The November launch will establish DENZA as BYD’s luxury offering, targeting buyers seeking premium features and advanced technology in hybrid off-road vehicles.
