ChargeNet raises prices at 22 regional sites

ChargeNet-Raeward-Fresh-Harewood

ChargeNet is increasing charging prices to $1.15 per kWh at 22 regional locations from Friday November 21, citing rising electricity and operating costs.

The price increase affects charging sites predominantly in rural and small-town locations across both islands, from Houhora in the Far North to Bluff in Southland.

“As we continue to invest in growing the network, rising electricity and operating costs have prompted us to review our pricing to ensure we can maintain a reliable and sustainable service,” ChargeNet says in an email sent to customers.

The company acknowledges the impact on users, saying it understands “price increases are unwelcome” while asking for continued support as it works to “improve EV charging across the country.”

The price changes apply to charging sites in Athol, Balclutha, Bluff, Castle Hill, Coromandel, Curio Bay, Fortrose, Glenorchy, Havelock, Houhora, Kaikohe, Karamea, Lumsden, Middlemarch, Milton, Ōwaka, Papatowai, Reefton, Tapanui, Tuatapere, Waitiki Landing and Ward.

Many of these locations feature ChargeNet sites at Four Square stores, libraries, and local businesses, highlighting the company’s strategy of partnering with existing retailers in smaller communities.

ChargeNet notes that pricing varies by location across its network and recommends customers check the ChargeNet app or website for current charging rates. The company also says third-party operators on its network set their own rates independently.

The regional focus of the price increases suggests the affected sites may face higher operational challenges or lower utilisation rates compared to urban charging locations.
