Chery Q EV confirmed for New Zealand launch

Chery has confirmed one of its smallest electric vehicles for the New Zealand market, with the compact hatch expected to arrive in 2027.

Known as the QQ3 in China, the model will be renamed the Chery Q for local markets.

The Q is a small electric hatch featuring rear-wheel drive, powered by a single electric motor producing 90kW and 115Nm.

It is equipped with a 42kWh battery, with Chery claiming a driving range of more than 400km under NEDC testing.

Charging capability includes DC fast charging of up to 85kW, allowing the battery to be replenished from 30% to 80% in around 16 minutes.

Inside, the model features an 8-inch digital instrument display and a 15.6-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

Chery has already launched the Q in Thailand, confirming right-hand drive production is underway — a key step for New Zealand availability.

A spokesperson for the company says a New Zealand launch is expected in 2027.

When it arrives, the Chery Q is likely to compete at the lower end of the EV market, alongside models such as the BYD Atto 1.
