Famous former footballer David Beckham has gifted Brooklyn Beckham a restored, modernised electric 1954 Jaguar XK140 to mark his son’s recent wedding to Nicola Peltz in Palm Beach, Florida.

The light blue open two-seater has been electrified and restored in Silverstone, England, by United Kingdom-based Lunaz in which David Beckham is an investor and who commissioned the Jag’s conversion.

The fully restored and upcycled interior is a light cream, and added modern technology is discreetly hidden with dials and switches faithfully reflecting the original Jaguar design but with subtle updates to provide information on the battery level and to operate contemporary functions.

The Jag also has uprated brakes, suspension and steering.

“In every respect, this extraordinary electric classic car by Lunaz symbolises a bright, positive future,” says Lunaz founder and chief executive David Lorenz.

Since Beckham announced his investment in Lunaz in June 2021 – joining the Barclay, Reuben and Dallal families as major shareholders, the company has expanded rapidly, growing its workforce by 200%.

It will soon establish the UK’s largest remanufacturing and electrification facility adjacent to its home on the Silverstone Technology Park.

This expansion will see Lunaz enter full production of upcycled electric vehicles (UEVs) for industrial applications, recently unveiling a fully electrified and upcycled refuse truck with first deliveries expected in 2023.

This approach responds to a growing global requirement to plot a much more sustainable course to the transition of passenger and industrial vehicles to clean air powertrains, Lunaz adds.

By upcycling and electrifying, essentially returning the vehicle to a factory-new standard, Lunaz saves 80% of the embedded carbon versus replacing it with new. This also saves significant capital making upcycling a cleaner, better and greener route to the rebalancing of global fleets to electric powertrains, the company explains.

Lunaz is now eyeing up the North American market with advanced discussions underway with states seeking to build long-term clean tech jobs growth.
