Denza has confirmed New Zealand pricing for its first local models, announcing the B5 and B8 super-hybrid SUVs as the brand prepares to enter the market.

The two models – the mid-size B5 and the larger, seven- or six-seat B8 – were unveiled at the opening of Denza’s first Australian dealership this week in Rushcutters Bay in Sydney, ahead of a wider regional rollout.

The vehicles sit on BYD’s DM-O (Dual Mode Offroad) “super hybrid” platform, which delivers EV-first driving for daily use with plug-in capability for extended range.

New Zealand pricing starts at $88,990 for the B5 and $96,990 for the B5 Leopard. The larger B8 is priced at $109,990 for the seven-seat configuration and $117,990 for the six-seat variant (excluding on-road costs).

The B5 will be offered in Standard and Leopard variants, while the flagship B8 can be optioned in seven-seat (7S) or six-seat (6S) layouts suited to families or executive transport.

Both models feature BYD’s Blade Battery, dual-motor four-wheel drive and, on selected variants, DiSus-P hydraulic suspension. Denza says the combination provides strong performance and comfort across sealed and unsealed roads. Total driving range approaches 1000km when combining electric and hybrid modes.

Denza chief operating officer Mark Harland says the launch brings new choice to customers seeking premium electrified SUVs at sharper price points.

“At Denza, we’re excited to offer customers a gateway to automotive luxury at price points which are unrivalled in the segment,” Harland says.

“There is now a real new energy choice for those who wish to combine adventure with sustainability and sophistication.

“What really excites us is getting to share Denz’s technology with customers. You can use these vehicles almost exclusively as EVs around town, while being able to hit the road for almost 1000km in a single drive thanks to this Super Hybrid technology.”

The Denza launch marks BYD’s move into the premium segment in the Australia-New Zealand market, building on the success of its mainstream models including the Atto 3, Dolphin and Seal.

The brand represents a curated selection of vehicles from BYD’s three sub-brands, reimagined under the single premium nameplate for the local market.

Unlike the main BYD brand, distribution is being led out of Australia rather than New Zealand’s Ateco.
