The sixth annual Aotearoa Bike Challenge national fun bike riding competition starting February 1 and continuing through summer offers a lucky draw prize of a new Omnia electric bike from Wattwheels valued at $3999 on Christmas Day for anyone who registers before December 25.

The Aotearoa Bike Challenge encourages people to rediscover the joys and benefits of riding, with a live leader board on the challenge website showing how regions, teams, companies, bike clubs, and individuals stack up against each other.

People and workplaces earn points for riding, and by encouraging others to ride too.

The challenge was a big success last February with 24,791 people and 2392 companies participating.

Many other prizes are offered including holidays, spa vouchers, a Go Pro, bike apparel and more.

“The Aotearoa Bike Challenge is a fun way to encourage people to get on a bike and give it a go,” Christchurch City Council transport head Lynette Ellis says.

“Whether it’s a short ride to the dairy, a social Sunday ride with friends, or simply a cruise along a cycleway or the river, every ride counts and gets you in the draw to win great prizes.”

Participants can log their rides manually or sync with an app such as Strava or MapMyRide.

The challenge is run by the Christchurch City Council, Auckland Transport, Tauranga City Council, Dunedin City Council, Hamilton City Council and Waikato Regional Council in partnership with Love to Ride.

Love to Ride is an online platform that makes it easy and fun to get more people riding bikes.
