Electricarna postponed

New Plymouth’s big EV event, Electricarna 2022, initially scheduled for Sunday, February 27, has been postponed until later this year because of COVID red traffic light restrictions to help combat an Omicron outbreak.
Electricarna was due to run shortly after the Americarna event there from February 23-26 celebrating American muscle cars, that event now cancelled.
About 60 to 100 cars were expected at Electricarna by organiser Stephen Hobo-Tuck who says this year it was opened to any hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), hydrogen-powered fuel cell EV (FCEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) as well as two-wheeled e-transport.
Rides and drives were also planned, but Hobo-Tuck says the East End Reserve in Strandon is difficult to police under COVID red traffic light rules.
“Entry is free but the perimeter fencing is low enough for people to step over so we had no way of controlling entry,” he explains.
Local dealerships had also been invited with the event run under the auspices of the Better New Zealand Trust and supported by the New Plymouth District Council and Venture Taranaki.
Electricarna will advise when a new date is set.
