Electro Mobility Summit with free to attend expo: A two-day exploration into clean transport

New Zealand’s transport sector is grappling with the major challenge of decarbonisation and ditching its reliance on diesel trucks.

To achieve a sustainable future, cleaner transportation solutions are available, and the 2024 New Zealand Electro Mobility Summit and Expo on October 16 and 17 at the Auckland Showgrounds will explore the evolving products and services available.  

The free event will offer valuable insights for those working in the supply chain and decision-makers looking to invest in new, sustainable trucks.

Among the exhibition’s clean transport solutions is JAC Motors which will be showcasing one of its battery electric trucks which boast up to 300km range with class-leading grunt and engine options.

The JAC brand recently entered the New Zealand market but has been around for 60 years producing and specialising in commercial vehicles.

Now one of the top commercial vehicle brands in China, JAC Motors has bolstered its success with commercial partnerships including with Volkswagen Group. It sells passenger and commercial vehicles to over 100 countries worldwide.

The expo is the place to go if you want to meet manufacturers and explore the new technology available for logistics.

View compact e-trucks, e-loaders, charging stations and also e-pallet options that boast load capacities ranging 1.4 to three tonnes.

Attendees can also check out low noise, zero emissions electric compact excavators for those in construction.

The two-day summit offers the opportunity to deep dive into the world of electro mobility.

Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) delivery and partnerships group manager Richard Briggs will share insights on EECA-backed research, grants, and incentives – including the Low Emissions Heavy Vehicle Fund (LEHVF).

Briggs will discuss EECA’s role in funding clean transport projects and highlight success stories and lessons learned from past initiatives.

As well as looking into EVs, there is the prime opportunity to look at hydrogen.

Hydrogen is emerging as a promising clean alternative for heavy-duty vehicles and this will be discussed by a panel of presenters, comparing hydrogen and electric vehicle trucks for clean transport.

Hiringa Energy, a frontrunner in building a nationwide green hydrogen refuelling network, will have new business head Ryan McDonald outlining hydrogen production, storage, infrastructure development, and the benefits of hydrogen-powered trucks.

Scania NZ e-mobility senior product engineer Alfons Reitsma will cover battery electric technology.

Scania recently delivered a new battery electric 6×2 truck mounted with a 16 pallet Fruehauf curtain-sider for transport and logistics business RFH Group.

The Scania BEV travels throughout the central North Island and charges its 180kW battery pack enroute via an ABB fast charger.

Graeme Cochrane from Infinitev will be addressing materials used in EV batteries and will explore solutions for their repurposing and recycling.
