EV blamed for contributing to car carrier fire

Some overseas media are alleging an electric vehicle contributed to a fire on the Fremantle Highway cargo ship heading from Germany to Egypt with nearly 3000 vehicles.

However, the fire cause is unknown at this stage.

About 25 EVs were reportedly among 2857 vehicles on board,  Reuters saying a coastguard spokesperson told it the fire began near an electric car.

Several media claim an EV is believed to be the cause.

Some incidents have led various shipping companies to restrict EV carrying, like the Mitsui OSK Line (MOL).

The International Maritime Organisation intends evaluating new measures for ships transporting EVs next year.
