EV finishes Dakar Rally for first time

The first electric car to finish the infamous Dakar Rally has crossed the finish line.

Acciona 100% EcoPowered placed 53rd, electricautosport.com reports.

Driver Ariel Jaton and co-driver German Rolon finished the race in 111 hours, overcoming extreme weather conditions in Bolivia and northern Argentina.

Some of the stages were shortened or cancelled because of the weather.

The vehicle got an upgrade for the rally that included a chassis redesign, lighter batteries and enhanced 4-wheel traction.

The Dakar Rally is a race that sees drivers travel 400 kilometres through Paraguay, Bolivia and Argentina over a 13 day period.
