Evnex new software provides EV charging costs

EV owners can now accurately manage their charging costs, with new software that simplifies the complicated range of electricity rates, tariffs and renewable sources.
Smart charging provider Evnex has developed its “Electricity Pricing” tool in response to requests from drivers for more accuracy about the cost of charging.
While it’s simple to monitor traditional fuel consumption it hasn’t been as easy to do so with electricity through EV home charging – until now.
Evnex founder and chief executive Ed Harvey says it’s the first tool of its kind to be tailored to the New Zealand market, and is one of the most intuitive available to EV drivers.
“We’ve designed it so it’s as simple as possible for EV owners to manage and track charging costs, gaining an accurate picture of in-home charging,” he explains.
“By selecting your tariff type, electricity rates, whether or not you have ‘free power hours’ or use solar, we then take that and turn it into an easy-to-understand graph that shows the best time to charge – whether that’s using clean energy or the cheapest rates.
“We then track every charging session across this pricing schedule to calculate the cost, essentially like a fuel bill. Users also have access to a charging summary that visualises the percent of energy they’ve used from solar, off-peak, free hours, peak and night rates.”

As more New Zealanders install solar in their homes, the ability to pinpoint and track energy used from solar is proving popular with the EV community.
“We’re providing new insights about the benefits of using solar energy to users,” says Harvey.
“It’s clear for them to see the positive impact it has on their energy consumption and footprint when it comes to EV charging.”
Since launching in Christchurch in 2014, Evnex has delivered five Gigawatt hours of EV charging, enough power to drive one EV to the moon and back 39 times.
