EVs among World Car finalists

A stack of EVs are among finalists in six World Car Awards categories, winners announced at the New York International Auto Show awards ceremony on March 27.

The EVs include the BYD Seal and BYD Atto 4, Hyundai Kona Electric, Kia EV9, Volkswagen iD.7 and Volvo EX30.

The 2024 World Car Finals powered by Brembo saw the top 10 chosen from 38 contenders.

”Today, more than ever, cutting-edge technologies and megatrends are shaping the automotive landscape,” says Brembo chief executive Daniele Schillaci.

A jury of more than 100 automotive journalists from 29 countries selected the finalists by secret ballot based on their evaluation of each eligible vehicle.

Five top finalists from 32 entered in the World Electric Vehicle category include the BMW i5, Kia EV9, Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, Volkswagen ID.7, and Volvo EX30.

The top five among 13 entries in the 2024 World Luxury Car class are the BMW 5 Series/i5, Lexus LM, Mercedes-Benz CLE, E-Class, and EQE SUV.

The World Performance Car had 17 cars competing in the category with the top five finalists the BMW M2 and XM, Ferrari Purosangue, Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, and Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid

The best five among seven candidates in the 2024 World Urban Car class are the Abarth 500e, BYD Dolphin, Lexus LBX, Suzuki Fronx, and Volvo EX30

All vehicles competing in the five categories are eligible for the World Car Design of the Year award.

The five finalists chosen by the design panel for the jurors’ winners’ vote in February are the Ford Bronco, Ferrari Purosangue, Toyota Prius, Volvo EX30, and Zeekr X.

The “Top Three in the World” will be announced at the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) on Monday February 26.
