EVs popular in Nelson-Tasman

Electric vehicles are taking off in the Nelson-Tasman region, according to Ministry of Transport figures.

There are now 150 EVs in Nelson-Tasman, which has increased from 50 at the beginning of 2017, Stuff reports.

The Car Company Nelson’s Damien Taylor says demand is outstripping supply.

“We could sell every one that we buy at the moment.

“The last two I bought were sold before they got here. Our biggest problem is getting them.”

EVs have been queuing to use the Network Tasman fast-charging station in Nelson.

Network Tasman has fast-charging stations at Nelson, Richmond and Takaka, which have all been increasing in popularity while others choose to charge at home.

Network Tasman chief executive Oliver Kearney says there are no plans for more chargers at this stage.

But the Warehouse plans to install a charging station outside its Motueka store in February and ChargeNet NZ plans on having chargers operating at Murchison, Springs Junction, Havelock and Blenheim early this year.
