Fairfax electric refrigerated trailer trial cutting emissions at Big Chill

Fairfax Industries says a fully electric refrigerated trailer paired with a DeepWay Star electric prime mover has saved more than five tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions during its first year of operation with Big Chill Distribution.

The trial combines a Fairfax fully electric refrigerated trailer with the fully electric DeepWay Star, providing zero emissions refrigerated transport.

According to Fairfax, the combination has operated for 1,353 hours over the past 12 months, saving an estimated 5,205kg of CO2 emissions, or an average of 23.24kg per day.

The company says the figures are based on real-world operation rather than controlled testing operations.

“The Fairfax ZE isn’t just proving what’s possible, it’s proving what works,” the company said.

Fairfax noted its first Fairfax ZE has now been operating on New Zealand roads for two years, while the second unit entered service with Big Chill around this time last year.

The company says the results demonstrate that electric refrigerated transport can deliver practical emissions reductions in day-to-day freight operations.

“As more operators look towards lower-emission transport solutions, it’s exciting to see the Fairfax ZE continuing to demonstrate that sustainable innovation and real-world performance can go hand in hand,” Fairfax said.
