Ferrari electric car production line rumoured
Once considered completely committed to its traditional engineering roots, Ferrari has made numerous moves over the last few years underlining its plan to expand beyond the kinds of cars it’s best known for.
The prancing horse has released two plug-in hybrids, the SF90 Stradale and the 296. Soon it will unveil its first SUV in the form of the Purosangue. And in 2025 it will launch its first fully electric vehicle.
It appears that the brand is well on its way to making plug-ins more prolific in its line-up.
A report by Bloomberg claims that Ferrari is currently in the process of building a new production line at its Maranello facility specifically for the construction of electrified vehicles.
As evidence, the article cites unnamed sources, plus claims that Ferrari recently acquired more land near its existing Maranello site.
According to the report, the facility expansion would include the creation of a research and development area specifically for battery development.
It’s expected that the expansion will be formally announced later this week on June 16. This is scheduled to be Ferrari’s capital markets day, where Ferrari investors are set to hear more about the iconic brand’s future plans.
Its widely speculated that Ferrari’s first EV will be a sports car with four-wheel drive, with power stemming from engines mounted in each wheel hub.
Ferrari is one of several supercar makers currently working on an electric debut.
Lamborghini has confirmed it will launch its first EV in the second half of the decade, Bugatti is expected to unveil an EV in the coming years with the assistance of Volkswagen Group stablemate Rimac, and Pagani is set to join the fray with a contender in 2024.
