Foxconn (aka Hon Hai Technology Group) has announced two concept prototype electric vehicles made in Taiwan at its third annual Hon Hai Tech Day – the Model B crossover hatchback and the Model V all-terrain electric pickup (ute).

It also showcased the production vehicle Model C to be delivered to Yulon Motor in Taiwan next year (reportedly to be called the Luxgen n7) while outlining key components of the EV supply chain, such as the electric power steering (EPS) system, solid-state battery, silicon carbide power module and semiconductors.

This year’s Hob Hai Tech Day promotes the business model of contract design and manufacturing service (CDMS) in the EV field through the next decade.

Chairman and chief executive Young Liu and founder Terry Gou – the day marking his birthday – came on stage in the new EVs.

Gou this year rode in on the Model B and test drove the Model C.

“In the past, we assisted global brand customers to transform the consumer electronics industry chain, step by step, providing consumers with extraordinary and affordable technology products,” says Gou.

Liu says the company used to make PCs and mobile phones and will now create EVs.

“In the next 10 years, Hon Hai in the EV industry will redefine CDMS in the automotive field and continue to promote vertically integrated technology services.

“Our goal is to provide the range of high-tech services and capabilities required by automakers to propel them to become more competitive.”

The Model B urban crossover has a claimed 450km range, while the Model C with nearly 700km range is expected on Taiwan roads in the second half of this year.

The Model V ute can carry up a tonne, has a 2.7 tonne towing capacity, a double-cab and five seat configuration and the latest tech, including sensors around the body.

Foxconn recently bought the former General Motors plant from Lordstown Motors in the US and will build electric utes there.
