Free charging helps NZ and UK EV owners
Conversations with EV drivers in the United Kingdom and New Zealand are pointing to a massive increase in the availability of free charging at level 2 chargers.
So says CleanTechnica which adds this leads to the question whether home chargers are needed.
The publication cites EV owners as saying they tend to use free chargers when out, especially at shops.
What it doesn’t say is whether there are any issues around queuing or waiting for free chargers to become available.
Conjecture abounds among Kiwi EV drivers whether some free chargers like those in parts of Auckland will eventually move to a user-pays system.
Meanwhile, pay-to-use EV fast chargers are now operating at two Goodman Property Trust Auckland business parks.
Both 150kW chargers are managed by ChargeNet NZ and are available to the public 24/7 at The Crossing carpark in the Highbrook Business Park in East Tamaki and outside the Amble and Birch café in the M20 Business Park in Manukau, charging payment made via a ChargeNet account.
The two sites have good access to State Highway 1.
The DC fast chargers at both sites can charge a single EV at up to 150kW or two EVs simultaneously at up to 75kW each, using CCS connections.
More on the Goodman Property Trust EV chargers will feature in June’s EVs and Beyond magazine.
