GAC showcases Aion V and M8 at Auckland pop-up
Chinese automotive manufacturer Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) is displaying two new models at an exclusive Auckland pop-up event ahead of its planned New Zealand market entry.
The Aion V electric SUV and M8 plug-in hybrid MPV are on show at Botany Town Centre, giving the public their first look at GAC’s planned New Zealand lineup. The display runs until Sunday at 5pm.
Aion V targets flagship status
The Aion V electric SUV is expected to become GAC’s flagship model in New Zealand, powered by a 75kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery delivering a maximum WLTP range of 510km.
The electric SUV supports DC fast charging at up to 180kW, allowing a 10–80% charge in 22 minutes. A 150kW motor producing 210Nm of torque drives the front axle, delivering 0–100km/h acceleration in 7.9 seconds.
Interior features include a 14.6-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay, an 8.8-inch digital driver display, and wireless phone charging. The Aion V also includes a centre console freezer.
M8 offers luxury MPV experience

The M8 plug-in hybrid MPV combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with hybrid assistance to produce 274kW and 630Nm. Despite carrying the “8” designation, the model seats seven passengers.
The second-row captain’s chairs feature heating, ventilation and massage functions, designed to provide a business-class passenger experience. The interior features luxury trim throughout.
GAC is also planning to launch the GS3 Emzoom SUV in New Zealand, though this model is not part of the current display.
Pricing and full specifications for the GAC models have not been announced, but this information is expected within the coming weeks. The vehicles are scheduled to go on sale in January 2026.
