Audi has unveiled the Concept C, an all-electric two-seat sports car that embodies the brand’s new design philosophy and previews future production models.

The roadster concept, revealed on 24 September, features an innovative roof system that combines the benefits of a convertible with a monolithic body style. It represents what Audi calls “radical simplicity” – the core of its new design direction.

Greg Leet, General Manager of Audi New Zealand, says the concept marks a significant shift for the brand.

“Audi is taking a bold step towards a reduced and timeless aesthetic that will continue to differentiate the company in times of increased complexities,” Leet says.

“This new design philosophy is about what makes a car desirable beyond rational experience – we want to inspire desire and create cultural impact.”

New design philosophy

The Concept C’s design centres around a vertical frame that forms the front of the vehicle, from which the entire structural volume develops. Audi says this element is inspired by the Auto Union Type C from 1936 and the third-generation A6 from 2004.

The sports car features an electrically retractable hardtop – a first for an Audi roadster. The system uses two roof elements that allow the vehicle to retain its monolithic shape while enabling open-top driving.

A new light signature introduces four horizontally arranged elements in each headlight and rear light. Audi says this design will define the brand’s visual identity during both day and night driving.

The exterior is finished in “Titanium” colour, which Audi describes as evoking warm, technical elegance inspired by the metal’s precision, lightness and strength.

Technology and interior focus

Inside, the Concept C features what Audi calls “shy tech” – technology that remains close by but never dominant. The centrepiece is a 10.4-inch foldable centre display that provides contextual information tailored to each driving situation.

The interior uses natural materials and indirect ambient lighting to create what Audi describes as a refined, warm environment. The steering wheel incorporates haptic elements and real metal Audi rings as focal points.

Strong architectural surfaces and geometric forms ensure space for both occupants while placing the driver at the centre of the experience.

Audi says the Concept C marks the beginning of its new design philosophy and will influence models beyond any direct production version. The concept focuses on what the company calls an unmistakable combination of clarity, technicality, intelligence and emotion.

The vehicle represents Audi’s vision for future electric sports cars, though no production timeline or specifications have been confirmed for New Zealand.
